Sing Summit 3

  • Inner West Pride Centre 1A Bedford Street Newtown, NSW, 2042 Australia (map)

Come and soothe your soul with a weekend of wholesome singing at Sing Summit weekend singing retreat in Newtown, led by Naomi Cooper and Jack Fitzgerald Sice of Sydney Alterna Choir. Gather with your fellow singing enthusiasts to help us scale the dizzying heights of the mountain of song.

The venue for our third Sing Summit is conveniently located directly opposite Newtown train station at the Inner West Pride Centre. This was Alterna’s first ever home before the recent refurb, so it’s special to us and we know some secrets for how to find the best acoustics in the building.

In those glorious acoustics, we will lift our voices together in joyous a cappella harmony to wash away your cares with a long soak in a warm sound bath.

At Alterna we sing whatever makes us happy: songs with an irresistible groove, songs that elicit happy tears, songs with delicious chords, songs with great stories.

On Saturday we’ll provide lunch from local social enterprise Parliament on King, and after some more singing we'll relocate to the nearby Carlisle Castle Hotel in the late afternoon for a casual singalong around the piano with your beverage of choice and the option to share a pub meal together.

On Sunday we’ll have a late start so you can sleep in, dust off the cobwebs from the night before, or walk your dog, then have a sing after lunch.

We’ll be learning brand new arrangements written especially for the weekend, so you don’t need to have sung with Alterna Choir before to join us for the retreat. Everyone is welcome and you don’t need any singing experience, just a sense of humour and sense of fun! We will teach everything by ear (we sing it for you and you just copy) so that everyone is comfortable, regardless of whether or not you have sung before.

“Fantastic - so encouraging and supportive - love the way it ‘all comes together’ magically - the creativity of Jack and Naomi is ace!!” - Lizzie

“As always your teaching and excitement and enthusiasm when teaching and hearing the different sections coming together is infectious and it brings such joy to the experience.” - Isabelle

“The vibe was on point! That's what makes Alterna so enjoyable is the wonderful, kind, fun people that come and sing together.” - Kate

“As always, Naomi & Jack made some quite complicated arrangements easier to learn by teaching us small section by small section. I'm always surprised how good we sound in a very short time. They also make learning so enjoyable by making us laugh and relax into a song.” - Jan
